My second Nuffnang invite in a week. This time to the PJ Laugh Fest in Jaya One.Thank you Nuffnang for being generous to me!!!
Since Ben and I both managed to get tickets, I invited Louisa and Afnan as our guests. Both Ben and I had classes on that day; and we kind of rushed to Jaya One because the ticket booth opened at 7:30p.m. Thanks Ben, for picking us up, fighting through the evening traffic and going back on the correct path after Afnan mistakenly directed you to Jaya 33. Haha!!!

It was my second time at Jaya One; my first one was very short so I didn't recognise the place at first. I must say that there seem to be many interesting places for food and drinks. Quite a few nice looking bars too where there were people sitting around and looking like they were enjoying the food and company very much. After walking around, Louisa (we gave her the task of choosing the venue) decided on Brussel's Beer Cafe for our dinner.It was a good choice!! We ordered food and drinks to share; and by drinks I mean alcoholic beverages. Louisa insisted that my drink was on her (again, thank you Louisa!!There will come a day the drinks will be on me!!). I really enjoyed the food in Brussels. Would recommend it to people who love good food; but unfortunately, I cannot afford to visit there often since yours truly is on a student's allowance. Anyway, for most of the dinner, my camera was with Louisa. She was pretty high on the drinks (she started getting high when we ORDERED the drinks, not when we were drinking. Haha!!) and snapped snapped snapped. So I took Ben's cam and did that too:-




It was pretty fun to linger over drinks and talk and laugh. So now I kind of appreciate bars. They're more conducive place for conversation; I'd never figured out how to socialise in a dark room with pounding music. Guess a contributing factor is I am no dancer?? Haha!! Oops. When it was finally 8:30 p.m. we went up to the theater and waited to be let in. Our tickets was for the 'Caught in the Middle Part 4' by PJ Live Arts slot. It's rated 18PL and I was wondering what sort of jokes were going to be cracked. =P


It was really enjoyable for me. The cast did a good job as a whole. I was really really amused with Mano Maniam and Zaibo's antics and laughed really hard at their jokes about Malaysian issues. Sandra Sodhy was very funny as the bossy wife who keeps a strict eye on the husband's diet. There was one part where I was really lost though..the whole time 'King of Lea' was going on, I was trying my best to understand something but couldn't. Fortunately it was not too long and I didn't get too restless. But when the part about 'Arse-holes' came on, I was back to chuckling mode. Hats off to Mano Maniam for delivering it with a straight face!!! Nicole Thomas was priceless as an old granny 'kayak-ing' in a wheelchair. There was another girl on stage whom I was really impressed with (can't find out her name), she played the role of a sexy nurse and hostess of 'Who Wants to Be a Politician'. I laughed so hard when she sprayed the audience with a water gun!! Anyone can tell me her name??-edit-[ I found out that her name is Nell Ng. Thanks Blabberina for the info!!]

Phew..just typing this post makes me want to laugh when I recall it. I'm glad I got to watch it. And I feel very proud that Malaysia has such talented comedians. If you're in need of a good laugh, do go and get tickets for the act. You'll definitely laugh at the way they poke fun at and put a funny light on some of Malaysia's frustrating issues like public transport and landslides. I know I did!!

Unrelated to title : I'd bought my tickets back to Ipoh just the other day and I was JUST informed that I have an extra class. Great. Now I have to go back to KTM and change my tickets. Random pictures of drinks from JoJo:-

So yeah, I got tickets from Nuffnang to attend the Premiere Screening of The Descent 2. This movie is set to release in Malaysia on the 22nd of July 2010. Many thanks to Nuffnang for the tickets!! The screening was held in Cathay Cineplex in e@Curve. Ben was my movie partner so we had dinner together in IKEA before the movie.


We went early to collect the tickets from the ticket booth and yet there was already a long queue ahead of us. I spent my time observing the crowd and recognised a few other bloggers. When it was finally my turn to collect tickets, I was pleased to see we got rather good seats.
Since there was still had time before the movie, we had a quick drink in Winter Warmers' :-

The Descent 2 is the continuation of the 2005 first movie where a group of women went on a caving expedition in an ancient coal mine only to find bloodthirsty human-like creatures that kill and eat whatever crosses their path. In this movie, one of the original group of girls; Sarah, somehow manages to escape from the hell hole and was found by a rescue party. Sarah doesn't remember a thing from her time down in the mine but the rescue party members brought her with them hoping to trigger her memory and help them find the rest of her missing friends.

I personally have no stomach for horror movies or thrillers. This one had me shrinking and closing my eyes because of the gore scenes. Actually the camera work was not very impressive because you just KNOW from the music and focus scenes that SOMETHING gruesome is going to appear or happen; but I still jumped. My goodness. But to be fair, I think The Descent 2 will appeal to gore fans. Plenty of blood, ripping apart of body parts, violent butchering and heart-pounding run-for-your-life scenes and gross substances covering the characters.

However, the ending left me feeling that the whole movie was rather pointless. Ah well, I guess they have to leave an opening in case they need to make a Number 3 right?? Overall, the movie was okay for me (though Ben was not very convinced I was okay) but it won't be my first choice if I had a list of movies to choose from for my popcorn sessions.

I rely on KTM Intercity to travel back to my hometown, Ipoh and vice versa because I don't like taking buses and KL Central is more accessible and safe than Puduraya and other bus stations. My train ride from Ipoh to KL and the opposite takes 3 hours. Well, I was scheduled for the 11 a.m. Express Rakyat train from Ipoh to KL Central on Sunday, and I thought to go there nice and early because; up till then, KTM has always been quite on time.

BUT GUESS WHAT??
I ended up waiting for an extra hour plus because the train was delayed!!!
The worst part was not the train delay; but the fact that NOBODY gave us an explanation!! Even the delay announcement was not announced immediately! Yoong and I had to sit there panicking for about 20 minutes because we were not sure whether that was our train or we'd miss the train or something. And BETTER still, there were no Station Masters around for us to voice our inquiries. The ones at the counter totally ignored us even though we tried to get their attention.

In the end I spotted a Station Master coming out of the washroom area and quickly asked him to clarify the situation. He told me there was 'maintenance problem' and the delay length was unknown. Sigh-ness. So we sat there and waited and grumbled.. :(

Urgh..I'd meant to spend the time typing a nice food post but ended up ranting about KTM. Well, just to console myself. My parents brought me out to breakfast before sending me off. Pictures for you:-

No, the broken teeth aren't mine. My teeth are still in their proper places. But the same can't be said of the teeth of my poor comb. You see, Yoong broke my comb. They say hair is stronger than steel...so my poor wooden comb stood no chance :-I liked that comb. It was free but still... (HAHA!!!Sorry Yoong, I couldn't resist posting this up. Don't kill me!!!) It's time to look for a new comb. And high time I combed my hair more often.

Okay, now to move on to nicer topics than broken teeth. I have more FOOD pictures from my food expedition with Yoong around Ipoh. I brought her to Big Tree Foot (better known as Dai Shu Geok) for lunch the other day. I myself had been craving for it and finally got to go. Yay!!

But moving on to the food. Big Tree's specialty:-




The stuff was good but I must go there earlier next time. Big Tree is always sold out very fast even though they keep frying new batches since people buy their liu in plastic bags full.

We also brought Yoong to the popular claypot chicken rice shop, K-Ten. It is located behind Jusco area. This one is actually a branch from the original shop in Bercham but no worries, the quality is still the same. Tried and tested before.
A little advanced warning though if you decide to venture there for your meal. You have to WAIT. It's not only because of the customer numbers factor but also because they actually boil the rice in clay pots over charcoal fires. So meanwhile, you order your drinks and slowly sip.

You can also order their other specialty, which is chicken feet. If you're squeamish over eating chicken feet then you're missing out!!! Haha!! The sauce is just so tasty.
