WHY should I pay to use your LOW-YA(T) toilet??!!!

Okay, so I guess it's pretty naive of me to think that the days where you were charged 20 cents to use the toilets in the malls were over. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Actually, the days where you get charged 20 cents to use the toilet ARE over. THEY'RE CHARGING MORE!!! I was in SOGO the other day and I had to pay 30 cents to use the lousy toilet that won't even flush, smelled like poo and the best part, they provided only 3 squares of toilet paper. You read right. There was an old lady tearing the toilet rolls into 3 squares and stacking them neatly to hand ONE to each person who pays to go in. EPIC!!!First time I've seen this. But I should thank God there was even toilet paper right??

And no, I am certainly not crazy to be making a fuss over this. I can afford to pay those coins but it's totally déclassée when malls do that, especially if the toilets are TERRIBLE toilets. Come on, after all, I am a customer of there. I spent money, I gave you revenue and yet you can't even let me answer the call of nature for free??Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Me = spoiled by Sunway Pyramid; where the toilets are clean and free for use PLUS always nicely stocked with toilet paper. Haha!! Well, I was complaining to my dad about the 30 cents for toilet in SOGO when he presented me with the icing on the cake. He pulled this out of his pocket:-
Dad said: You think 30 cents was a lot?? I paid RM1 to use the toilet in LOW YAT!! Talk about daylight robbery!!! And they called it PREMIUM toilet!!! It was terrible!!!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us I was giggling away for quite a while.
Anyway, I'll end this post on a good note. Sushi Zanmai opened in Low Yat Plaza and they're having an opening promotion where certain items on the menu are 50% off. We had dinner there and ordered the large Chicken Katsudon for only RM7.90 (N/P: RM15.80). So I guess that made up for the toilets huh. Haha!! Pictures:-

Nuffnang Screening : The Back-Up Plan

This post is belated but better late than never.
I got tickets to watch the premier screening The Back-Up Plan from Nuffnang. THANK YOU NUFFNANG. Since I happened to be in KL during the week (staying with family in Maytower Hotel) , I decided to go with Ben and accepted the invite.

Dad dropped me off in MidValley and Ben picked me up from The Gardens before we headed to The Curve since the screening was at e@Curve. Talk about mall-hopping. Haha!! Anyway, we had dinner in TGIF and shared a 2-course meal (I learnt my lesson last time that I CANNOT finish a 2-course meal on my own). Ben chose starters so main course was up to me. Hence, this was dinner:-

Boneless Buffalo Wings

Adobo Chicken
came with nice sweet potato fries..

The food was not as fantastic as I anticipated and the portions seem smaller?? Ben was saying that the economy crisis is making everyone tightening belts. Well, I was full but still had space for dessert. I chose the Mocha Mudpie since I haven't had this in the longest time:-

Mocha Mudpie!!
Hmm..again, was not as good as I thought it would be. Maybe it is the outlet problem?? It is my first time eating at The Curve's outlet since I frequent the Sunway Pyramid's outlet more. Will find out soon. Anyway, still enjoyed dinner since it was my first time seeing him after going back in Ipoh for exams.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

At around 8:10p.m. we rushed to the cinema to collect our tickets. We were so afraid there would be a long line ahead of us since we were later than usual (normally we would line up by 8 p.m. for the counter to open at 8:30 p.m.) but there were like less than 10 people ahead. I got a nice surprise this time because Nuffnang was giving out The Back-Up Plan merchandise along with the usual tickets and NN badge. I could choose between a bag, a pouch and a shirt. Well, I took the shirt because it was the most practical for me and it was NOT PINK. Haha!!! (no puns intended!!). Had to borrow pics from Ben's blog since I didn't take any...

Our tickets!!

And The Back-Up Plan t-shirt
Ben and I were speculating on what people will think of either of us walking around wearing that shirt. I think I'll try it out in a place where nobody will recognise me. On second thought...not good idea to make people stare at my chest. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us (psstt!!Ben..Up for it???)

Anyway, we entered the cinema and made ourselves comfortable for the movie. We got seats which were slightly below eye-level despite lining up early. =/The movie was pretty funny. It reminded me a little of Knocked Up though...basically showing the funny process of both woman and man trying to adjust and prepare (and going a little psychotic) for the arrival of the bundle of joy; where in this case(movie) there are bundle-S of joy. The birth scene was pretty crazy and made me cringe a little. Cringe from laughter and a little disbelief. My goodness. Well, overall it was an enjoyable movie and quite worth watching.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

There was little drama while Ben was sending me back to Maytower hotel since he's never driven there before plus Google Maps failed us at the last minute. Sigh-ness. But I got back safely. So all's well, ends well.

Tanjung Tualang Seafood and ICE JELLY!!!

As I mentioned in my previous post (here), after our stops at the Agarwood Plantation and Bird Park; we headed to Tanjung Tualang for a seafood lunch.

Up till a few years back, my family would come here quite frequently for family lunches because my grandmother has some relatives here.My family will normally go to the same restaurant for the seafood but because the lady boss was a hardcore gambler, she had to fled from Tg Tualang because Ah Longs were after her for her heavy gambling debts. So after she fled and closed down the restaurant, we don't come anymore. Well, this time with the CG; we went to this restaurant:-
It's actually located among a row of seafood restaurants, which in my opinion are not much different because each will have their own style, so it's pretty much up to personal taste. Anyway, the REAL treat for me (and my cousins) whenever I'm in Tg Tualing is the ICE JELLY!!!!:-

Wan Toh Long
(pssttt!!!SZEWEI!!!
LOOK AT THIS PICTURES LONGER!!!They're for you!!)
The wan toh long is actually sold by an old man in his roadside stall but you may order it through the restaurants because they allow it. It's a must try because it's really refreshing and unlike some other shops' versions I've tried before, their jelly is fragrant and the lime syrup is just nice, not too sour and not too sweet. Total BLISS to be drinking this again after like 5 years??Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I used to be unable to stop sip sip sipping away at my cup of wan toh long when I was younger and I'd be left with less than half a cup by the time the food arrived. Well, nothing changed. I had like a quarter of my drink left when the food arrived. Haha!! Anyway, pictures of FOOOOD:-

Sotong kangkung in peanut rojak sauce
the sauce was awesome!!!

O' Chien (baby oysters omelette)

Steamed catfish with pickled vegetables

Butter prawns
(blurry picture.sorry!!)

Aaaand..the highlight dish..

Steamed freshwater prawns

I got one with eggs. Yummy yummy...
There were other dishes too but I was too busy eating plus didn't like to stop others from eating just to take pictures. Did the best I could. So hope the pictures still make you hungry!!Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

A Day with Nature; Agarwood Plantation and Bird Park

My parents' cell group had a cell outing yesterday. It was basically a family trip consisting of about 25 of us (adults and children) to get back in touch with Mother Nature and spend time together. I took a ton load of pictures and I finally finished filtering through all of them, picking the ones I would like to show you and uploaded them here. *wipes seat off brow*

We went to two places. The first one was an Agarwood plantation somewhere in Gopeng. If you are not familiar with Agarwood, try Google-ing it and read about this evergreen, highly useful and valuable tree. It's used for perfume and incense sticks among the many things. Apparently the latest discovery of the nutrition value of its leaves has made Agarwood plants prices soar.

The plantation belongs a to friend of one of the cell members and we were taken for a tour by the boss himself. Judging by the sign at the entry, this was a tour not just anyone can go on:-
Since it was only safe for four wheel drives to drive on the rough terrain of the plantation, we all condensed ourselves from five 7-seaters into 3 four wheel drives. Since it was a squeeze, my brother, Uncle Hock Hin and I squeezes into the vehicle's back. Let me show you and illustration of how we sat:-
The yellow is Uncle Hock Hin, blue my bro and pink,me.

It was a bumpy ride and we had to brace ourselves in our places. We went up several high points in the plantation and was shown trees in various growth stages. Let the pictures do the talking:-

One of the very tall durian trees
where if you look closer has many weaver birds' nests hanging from it's branches:-

Tags on the trees to indicate years I assume:

So was I to get out of the truck:-

Meet Emily!!:-

One of the oldest agarwood tree in the plantation:-
It's worth RM500,000++!!!!

The boss burnt a little of the trunk to let us smell it's fragance:-

There's a huge bee's nest in it:-

Finally around 11a.m. we left the plantation:

The sun was already high in the sky and the sky was a clear blue. Super hot!!!
Shelter under one of the big trees:-

Next, we went to a Bird Park in Batu Gajah. It is actually an old tin mining land but now some parts have been turned into fish farms, duck farms, prawn farms and the like. There are many lakes there for fishing and it's a good place for bird-watching. It is also scenic and good for pictures. Let me show you the pictures from there:-

From the entrance
(if you click on the picture to see the full size
you'll see the white specks on the ground are actually birds)

The bird-watching tower:-
surrounded by a vast lake..

The lookout point next to the lake:-

Some of them brought binoculars and as I was looking through them and spying on the birds, I really wished I had powerful zoom lenses to take clear pictures of the birds. Haha!! I was quite envying a few of the DSLRs around me which were busy snapping snapping. Anyway, I did the best I could with my Canon Compact. Click on them to see the full size and see if you can spot birds in the pictures:-

Some random pictures after I was tired of bird watching:-

After the bird watching session, we got back into the cars and went to Tanjung Tualang for a seafood dinner. But I will have to update that on my next post since this has been a super long post. Keep an eye open for my next post (click here to read) alright. Hope you enjoyed the pictures!!
