A Friend's Greeting

I'd like to be the sort of friend that
you have been to me;
I'd like to be the help that
you've been always glad to be;

I'd like to mean as much to you
each minute of the day
As you have meant, old friend of mine,
to me along the way.

I'd like to do the big things and
the splendid things for you,
To brush the gray from out your skies
and leave them only blue;

I'd like to say the kindly things that
I so oft have heard,
And feel that I could rouse your soul
the way that mine you've stirred.

I'd like to give you back the joy
that you have given me,
Yet that were wishing you a need
I hope will never be;

I'd like to make you feel as rich as I,
who travel on
Undaunted in the darkest hours with you to
lean upon.

I'm wishing at this time that I
could but repay
A portion of the gladness that
you've strewn along my way;

And could I have one wish this year,
this only would it be:
I'd like to be the sort of friend
that you have been to me.

Pet Project

Wrong...
you're guessing that I've adopted a new animal into my house;WRONG.(haha...got you!!!)
I accompanied my mum to a plant nursery the other day and my mum decided to humour my whim to cultivate plants and fishes in jelly..
My mum got this packet of jelly crystals for me and I soaked them in water...and they expand to 10 times their size. This is what a "jelly ball" looks like:-
They're really squishy and they can bounce (this fact was tested by my brother,Joshua who broke several jelly balls by bouncing them on the table. Thank you very much...) Before I mislead you further, these jelly balls are suppose to nourish plants. You put plenty of them into a jar and stick a few pretty ferns into the jelly..*walla* instant home decorative piece. This is what I accomplished with two jars and a few plants snitched from my mum's garden:- I like the effect that the plants look like they're growing out of crystals..I got really excited and made another;which my mum gave to her friend. Feeling really pleased with myself,I embarked on the other half of 'Pet Project'. Cultivating fishes and plants in water simultaneously...

This time..different crystals were used. I kidnapped a few fishes from my mother's fish-pond in the garden and carved a plastic container for the plants. The achieved effect is this:-

Plant on top, fishes below...can you see them??

The crystals are at the bottom of the jar (if you can see some yellow stuff underneath...).
Whoever thought of this cultivation is a real creative mind..
So if you're interested in these..I'd be more happy to give you some of the leftover crystals I have...CHEERS!!!

Of sushi,Cake and FRIENDS

Yesterday was quiet...today was a frenzy!!!
I went to Sushi King for lunch with my classmates;
Bavanee,Stephanie,Mei Theng,Amy,Choong Lin,Kasthuri,Shobana and Yoke Wei.
The waitress eyes went huge when told that we wanted a table for 10.
And since I "pakat" with Stephanie to share the sushi we eat,we both got to eat quite a big variety of sushi. yum yum...(glutton me..)

And when we got back to college, they presented a cake to me...making it two cakes for my birthday this year...(WOW!) Look at the CHOCOLATE!!!!!!
*sorry Bavanee...I blew out the candles and sliced it before you got a proper picture..
THANKS,FOR GIVING ME A SUSHI EVENT TO REMEMBER AND FOR A SCRUMPTIOUS CAKE.

LOVE YOU !!!!!!!!

(old picture....I don't have a more recent one...sorry if anyone is missing...)

I'm LEGAL

Haha...
You must be wondering why I put LEGAL as my title. Today is the day I turn 18...
Meaning I'm of legal age to drink( I like Martini ),watch rated movies (according to Nasiha) and smoke (I hate smokers so there isn't a chance in hell I'd smoke...)

Its been quite a quiet day...since there's no college today. So I spent my first day of being legal sleeping, going online and walking around my house. My mobile kept vibrating with messages from my dear friends...whom are out of Ipoh and can't celebrate with me...
This day stayed quiet until my dad came home from work with a pink cake box and a mischievous smile. Here's the cake he bought me..(cheese cake)

After dinner,my whole family gathered in the kitchen and sang, "Happy Birthday",I cut the cake and we munched happily...
Oooo....I got to eat the chocolate guitar which was part of the decoration on top of the cake...(childish ya?? but it was nice)

THANKS..
TO PAPA, MUMMY AND JOSHUA (i LOVE YOU)
TO ALL WHO SENT ME SWEET WISHES (even Charis who is in Russia)
TO ALL OF YOU WHO REMEMBERED THIS DAY AND MADE IT SPECIAL....

Fondue with Chrys

October is the month where there are the most birthdays (in my calender at least..) Well...today,is the day CHRYS TURNS 18!!!! This is Chrys:-
I've
known her since we were both little kids in Std. 3 (or was it Std. 4??) Its funny how we made friends... You see,I had hamsters at that time; and I gave hamsters to her. We were really into those cute little, furry pets and we would run over to each other's houses to see how the other's fluff balls were doing. Those were the days.....

Anyway, for her birthday,Chrys was in Ipoh so (surprises!!!) she called me out to a birthday dinner with her and a few other friends;Ciara,Michelle and Sze Haw. Despite fervently discussing steamboat places since the week before;the place Chrys chose for the dinner was Ice Ice Baby..a trendy cafe near Padang Ipoh.

The place was pretty cool;we got a special room where we had curtain partitions and nice cushions to sit on. The pictures below are courtesy of Chrys's Facebook(hope you don't mind ,Chrys).
Girls night out...having a good time...(i look horrid...)
Bithday cake: Tiramisu courtesy of Aunty Mooi Ching...

the cheese-baked rice I had..yummy...

swooning drinks...(banana smoothie and chocolate)

cute ice-cream....haha...
All smiles that night...

The highlight dessert: Chocolate Fondue

Just fork-licking good....

We really ate,laughed and talked....
It was one of the most memorable nights out with my friends...
Thanks Chrys...

Charis's Day

TODAY BELONGS TO CHARIS!!!!

One of my closest friends in the world turns 18 today!!!! Happy Birthday,Charis!!! We're all turning legal (my word for the age of 18). Getting nostalgic..It seems only yesterday we were in uniforms, smacking each other and wound up over school stuff. Now,we're driving cars, meeting each other out of Ipoh and dyeing our hair.

The best memories of school is being surrounded by friends who accepted me as I am...and she makes up that small group of them. Charis will be celebrating her birthday in Russia this year where she's pursuing her medical studies.May your dream to be a doctor will be fulfilled, Charis....

Love,
Joyce

Joyce Meets SCISSORS!!!

I went for a haircut today...

You see;I've been talking bout getting a haircut since March but I never found time or I was too lazy to find a good saloon. Stephanie got very tired of listening to me say,"I must cut my hair. Its too long." and each time, she'd reply,"No need..I'd be more than happy to cut for you...for FREE.".
Last month, this new saloon opened near our college. We often walked past it during lunch time and I got more and more curious about it. I made Stephanie find out its opening hours....and yesterday,I made the huge decision:-
MY HAIR WILL BEND TO THE WILL OF THE SCISSORS!!!
Today I had a long lunch break from 1 pm to 4 pm so I had a leisurely lunch of 'roti canai' and iced coffee (I had a big breakfast) and climbed up the flight of stairs leading to the saloon. As soon as I pushed open the door, I was nearly blown of my feet by a loud series of "WELCOME!!!HELLO!!!WELCOME!!!"
Hmmm..I know I am a pretty skeptical person but was it me or they sounded REALLY excited to see a customer at last..??? Before I could look around,a petite lady in a black dress and loud voice half-shouted,"WELL,here's a customer!!!What do you want??". It wasn't until I had told her I wanted a haircut that I noticed that she was sitting at a chair with foam in her hair. A bit nonplussed,I approached the counter where a sweet-faced girl in an apron rushed over to serve me.

I had dragged Bavanee and Stephanie along to keep me company;and I was explaining to the girl that I was the only one who needed a haircut when the black dress lady exclaimed,"Wow,SUCH a lucky girl!!She brings an ESCORT of friends for her haircut."
I glared at her while the girl sat me down in a chair and started untying my hair to wash it. Stephanie and Bavanee giggled and settled in avaible armchairs to observe the scene. Oblivious to my dagger stares, she stared at my hair with a wide-eyed expression and said,"Such LONG hair!". "Of course it's long,I haven't had a haircut in 7 months," I snapped back "you loud-mouth siren!" I added in my mind. She was just another customer and what right did she have commenting on my hair like that???

I decided to ignore her and chatted with the nice girl who was shampoo-ing my hair.
She was admiring my handphone key-chain here. After my hair was washed and dried, the hairstylist;who is a guy, came over and discussed what I wanted to do with my hair.
After deciding on a style and length,he took up his scissors and started to snip at my hair when the irritating lady (She was in the chair next to mine, having her hair permed and staring at me all the while) addressed the hairstylist,"You'd better not cut her hair too short or she'll cry." Of all the NERVE!!!! I decided how long I want my hair!! I was seething already. I think the guy sensed the tension and quickly started talking about piercings. It was a successful ploy and I spent the time chatting with him and ignoring the weird woman.

Bavanee and Stephanie had been next to me all this while and was soon joined by Preeyah. I think they were pretty bored..(sorry for that but THANK YOU guys for "teman-ing me!!!I'm really grateful) Bavanee recorded me having my haircut..(I guess she was REALLY bored) but lets give her credit..here's the short video...pretty boring actually...

Anyway, when the guy had finished cutting,he blow-dried,combed my hair and made it look neater than I've ever seen my hair before..Here are the "before' and "after" pictures

I guess You can tell which is "before" and which is "after"...

Well, thats a another tick on my "things I need to do" list.

Next I need to get new glasses and contacts. Somebody please remind me!!

hehehe...

Fluff nostalgia

AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
I found this picture of a baby hamster while surfing just now.
Gosh,its so CUTE!!
This picture really brings me back to days where I had about 40-plus hamsters running about in 3 joint cages.
I really missed my little fluffballs. I wish I could still scoop them out and let them run up my arms to my neck and tickle me with their woffly noses.
But they have all gone to hamster-heaven.
*sigh*

What a DAY!

The weather has been driving me crazy. Let me tell you about this particular day where Mother Nature couldn't make up her mind whether she wanted to thwart or team me. When I woke up,it was pleasantly cool;tempting me to lie in bed even though I have to be in college in 15 minutes. I had to force myself out of bed and make myself presentable.

Ever tried combing your hair after rolling around in bed for half an hour debating whether to get up?? It hurts... especially when u have a stubborn mare's tail like mine.

There was once when I was rushing for time,I had to cut away a chunk of my hair because the knots wouldn't budge;even when I dragged my hairbrush as hard as I could. Fortunately,I have so much hair, noone noticed the jagged ends after I hacked the bunched mess with a scissors.
Back to the weather...
I have to drive to college now,so after dragging myself out of bed despite the nice cool air,I consolled myself..at least I won't have to worry about sunburn when I drive.

THEN, as soon as I got into the car,my surroundings got suspiciously brighter and brighter. I didn't even have to look up..the sun had come out to shine in full glory.

Now,I'd been told several times,"Joyce, the morning sun is good for your skin.It has Vitamin E and it will IMPROVE your complexion. You only have to avoid the afternoon sun because it has UV rays which will damage your skin, give you wrinkles...etc etc.." I know that there is scientific evidence backing up those facts. But STILL...be it morning or afternoon;basking in the sun darkens your skin...and I'm definitely not suited to the "tanned" look. Thanks to the 'wonderful,Vitamin E morning light' my arm has two tones, the lighter tone clearly showing where my shirt sleeves were and the brown tone a solid proof of sunburnt. Not nice. Not nice at all.

Thanks to the coffee I drank earlier,I was over my morning blues. So I just pulled on the cardigan I keep in my car, turned up the air-conditioning,slipped a CD into the player and stepped on the gas. The sun played hide-and-seek the whole way. One minute it was behind the clouds and the next, it blinded me with its reflection off some maniac's over-polished car.

I arrived at college in dazed state, feeling as though someone had taken a 100 photos of me. I stumbled thankfully into class and immersed myself in some nasty tax laws. The occasional flashes had given me a headache and I had a hard time concentrating. It started raining around lunch-time. I was pretty pleased..I loved the rain. I love listening to the rain pattering down and imagining it covering the earth, washing away all dust and despair, leaving clean, fresh, cool air behind. Very nice...

It rained...and rained...until my classes were over;it was still raining. I had to do a mad sprint to the car, splashing my sneakers and my jeans. The rain was seriously heavy. It poured down onto my windscreen, making thumping noises like a hollow drum. I turned on the wiper and started for home.
Such a terrifying, mind numbing journey it was!!! I'm a relatively new driver and it was my first time driving in a heavy downpour.Other cars coming from the opposite direction splashed more water onto my car and there were moments when I couldn't see anything ahead of me. I cursed each time I saw a giant puddle ahead.
When I finally reached home,I took off my soaked sneakers and rushed straight to my room. I changed into my oldest t-shirt and my comfiest pants and collapsed on the bed. I could hear the rain still falling outside my window. I was in one of my favourite positions. Lying in bed wrapped in my blanket and listening to the rhythm of the rain outside. I thought back on how the weather had been the whole day;so unpredictable. Like human nature. To think I was shivering in my car because of the downpour minutes earlier and then lying calmly and listening to the same downpour.Same thing. Different perspective. Interesting. At least something went right that day.
