Maybelline Simply Fabulous Finale, MOS

Okay...that was just a vanity photo. I wore a maxi out for the first time so I was pretty pleased with myself.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Onward to the event relevant to my title:-SIMPLY FABULOUS. Organised by Maybelline New York. And it's 8TV's first online reality show. I won't pretend to know a lot about it because I have not been watching it online. In fact, I only started browsing for info about it when Kar Ning and Sze Haw asked me whether I would go to the Finale because Arleen could help us get tickets from her friend, Susie, one of the contestants in Simply Fabulous. (Quite a chain of links that got me the ticket right??Thanks girls!!!) It was an invite only event in MOS, Euphoria..so I thought why not??? Plus I love having an excuse to dress up and take lots of pictures.

We were all there nice and early at 5:30 p.m. And because we were early we got a free goodie bag from Maybelline, a complimentry Makeover and Hairdo session plus a buffet while waiting for the event to start. It was a nice surprise because I was only anticipating the goodie bag. See, it pays to go early and be on time for an event. I still don't understand the 'Malaysian time' mentality.

We had to wait in line for our turn. There were only 4 hair stylists and 4 make-up artists to fab-up like 100 girls??? A few photos of BEFORE hair and makeover:-

Me

KarNing and Sze Haw

Yean Shan

Salutes to the hair stylists and make-up artists. They were professional. I mean, they really put effort into making us look nice. Not only just to finish their job and move on to another girl. The girl who did my hair was efficient and gave me nice waves just like I asked. I think the make-up artist liked me because I did put on some make-up before I left my room so all she had to do was 'professionalise' my look. She put on like MORE make-up over my make-up. Gave me fab smoky eyes. I felt good after I was done.
AFTER hair and make up session

Pretty girls.

Gah....my mobile cam really doesn't take nice pictures in dark lighting..
It was already dark when we finished with the session. Only managed to grab some fruit to appease our thirst from the buffet before being shoo-ed in.

I didn't take any pictures inside. Too crowded plus my heels were killing me. The 10 finalists all came onstage and answered questions. There were videos of them doing their thing and the hosts were trying to pump the crowd up. Nothing much happened actually. Ended up retreating to the bar area to redeem our soft drinks (it was an alcohol-free event) and camwhoring with SzeHaw's cam. Haven't got the pictures from her yet. It ended at 9 p.m. A lot of people were planning to stay on for clubbing because the wristband gave us free entry to MOS that night but I decided to head back.

Back in room..Yean Shan and I took many many photos to 'utilise' the make up before we removed it. HAHA!!! Here are a few:-

Yean Shan looks so cute here..haha!!!

And I was wearing fake eyelashes for the first time.See:-
Not used to it. I always thought fake eyelashes made your eyes smaller (they do if your eyes are small) but since my eyes aren't slits they made my eyes look HUGE. Like a doll. I freaked myself out after I pasted them on. Pui San and Yean Shan said I look like those 'kawaii' Japanese girls.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us But they were good for photos. Haha!!!:-
I only know how to adjust lighting in photos. I suck at photoshop...

Of Roti Everest, Bibimbap and Peach Cheesecake

As promised...pictures from my weekend at my uncle's. More like a parade of food actually...(Man, its both a blessing and a curse that my family loves good food so much).

I'm sure we Malaysians are all familiar with roti canai (if not, then you're a deprived person, go smack yourself) and I think a popular version of it is the roti tisu. I think its just a thin, crispy version of roti canai with more butter, sugar and some condensed milk. Calories plus plus. My uncle brought us to KAYU and ordered the roti Everest. Its actually just a really rally huge roti tisu but the novelty of seeing the guy stand on a chair and pull it into a conical shape and then use three plates to contain it just makes it a must try:-

Now let me rave about my aunt's awesomely diversified cooking skills. Haha!!
On our second dinner there, she cooked us BIBIMBAP!!!

My first time trying this Korean dish and it really is awesome. Bring on the chilli sauce!!!!

And she taught Sze Haw and I how to make PEACH CHEESECAKE!!

It was suprisingly simple. We didn't even have to use the oven to bake or anything. All we did was mix a lot of things together. And I had to do some serious BEATING.

The result was just so awesome!!!

Okay, we didn't just eat only at our uncle's place. We did accompany our aunt to KLCC for the Jewelry Festival but ended up only her entering because the entrance fee was like RM10 each. WTH?? And my aunty's two dogs were so super excited that we were there. But because Sze Haw and I aren't very fond of dogs (I hate it when they lick me or try to sniff where they're not supposed to sniff okay) they gave us this tragic I'm-hurt-and-ignoring-you poses:-

Drama kings. As soon as anyone had food in their hands, they'll just jump right up and follow you around with shining, beady please-feed-me eyes. Dogs...

Well, we had some cousin bonding time..haha!!!
I showed Sze Haw that her hair CAN be braided. See:-
If you notice Sze Haw's hair seems to have purple highlights??
Well, its her natural hair colour..

In conclusion..great weekend.
Before I end. Let me just obsess about these pair of heels I tried on in Vincci. See the pair of heels on the right on this pic:-

ARGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They're so nice but not at all practical for me and I don't wanna splurge on it.
BUT I WAAANNNNTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Insane pictures

You know how sometimes boredom can lead people to do silly things. Well, this is what Sze Haw and I did with her brother's Mac cam:-

I look so damn happy for some reason...

This is me playing the dark, emo sadistic while SzeHaw plays the glowing angel:
Stupid fringe of mine...

We voted this a favourite...

Why do I look so DARK????

This mode gives us Frankenstein teeth
Ugly betul!!!Like haven't brush teeth for a century...

Okay...enough insane photos.
I'll end with a proper, sweet and nice photo of us.

--------------------------------------

I'm currently back in my hostel room.
*Sigh* so reluctant to leave. Had a great weekend.
I'll get to work loading the photos from the weekend and posting them!!!
So keep a lookout for the next post!!!
Sneak preview......
Pssttt!!!!its not a shop cake.Made with LOVE.

I HEART Klang Bak Kut Teh!!!

I had this for breakfast this morning:-

(Sorry I had to borrow images from other sites because I was too busy eating and talking to snap pictures of my own. Camera usage...FAIL!)

Sourced from Wikipedia
Bak kut teh (Hokkien: 肉骨茶) is a Chinese soup popularly served in Singapore, China, Taiwan (where there is a predominant Hoklo and Teochew community) and also, cities of neighbouring countries like Batam of Indonesia and Hat Yai of Thailand. The name literally translates as "meat bone tea", and, at its simplest, consists of meaty pork ribs simmered in a complex broth of herbs and spices (including star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui, fennel seeds and garlic) for hours.

TELUK PULAI BAK KUT TEH

I grew up eating the bak kut teh from this particular stall which is located near the Teluk Pulai KTM station, across the bridge. It is also very near my late grandma's house.
I haven't eaten this bak kut teh for like a seriously long time. Missed it so much. Sze Haw was also hankering for it because even though, strictly speaking, she's only been there once (the other times she ate was when my dad ta bao from Klang back to Ipoh for her) she says its the best she ever tasted.

She got her wish today. My uncle was eager to go along with our suggestion of bak kut teh for breakfast. The challenge was getting there. Honestly, I'm not good with directions or remembering the roads to places. My only saving grace is I will remember when I've been there several times. My uncle kept asking me for the name of the place so that he can key it into his GPS but I wasn't sure of the name. We've always called it Teluk Pulai bak kut teh but I didn't know that was the actual shop name. (I know...smack me.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us) So the safest bet was go to Klang town.

The GPS took us from Damansara to Klang's Little India. And from there I tried my best to direct them the right way. But the GPS kept beeping "Derived from original route" and there were a few detours because we didn't turn when we should. Went one big round across the bridge like twice...but in the end, we arrived safely at the little shop.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

My uncle was eager to try all the nak kut teh variations they had so when our food arrived, we had the soup bak kut teh, the dry (gon lou) bak kut teh, a huge side of pork leg (dai guat), pork ribs (pai guat) and yew char kway. I had never even tried the dry version before because I love the soup version, always calling for "refill, refill" for the soup. We ate it with the yew fan (oiled rice???). My cousin Steven liked the yew char kway so much he ordered a second plate and even considered a third plate because the first two disappeared so fast.

It was very satisfying...though the quality seems to have dropped a little compared to the early days when I ate it. Yoong told me that the corner shop to the left (I think the name is Klang Lek Bak Kut Teh) has improved and is better than Teluk Pulai BKT. But all these aside. I had a totally satisfying breakfast!!!!Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

FINALLY.......!!!!

I am currently at my uncle's place (yea yea, I know..I have a number of relatives in Selangor) but THIS time Sze Haw's here too. Liane...we're taking over your room for the weekend...Image Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.usImage Hosted by ImageShack.us

For the past week, the internet in my hostel has been a total B****!!!I'm serious. Allegedly they're 'updating' the internet connection in our hostel but if that is what they call upgrading, I'd rather they just let it be. I couldn't connect to my Facebook, MSN, my e-mails, my blog editor (that's the reason for the lack of updates this week) I couldn't even update my Kaspersky.

So now I'm using my uncle's blessedly fast WiFi. Though it doesn't allow me to upload photos (there's four of us using it at the same time) but its just a relief to be able to check my mail, Facebook and connect to MSN. Goodness, I sound like an internet addict. Well, I have been spending my internet-less times quite productively, if I say so myself. I went swimming with Yean Shan and Pui San. I'm pretty pleased that I can still do laps and have made up my mind to swim daily if possible. Its really relaxing and it feels good. and tried to start studying for the December exams.

Anyway...I had beef noodles in Vietnam Kitchen, 1Utama before coming to my uncle's house. It's not as nice as I remembered from my last visit there with Sze Haw,Liane and May Yan. Ipoh's 'ngau lam fun' totally beats it. Goshh...I wish I had more time in Ipoh so that I can eat the nice and cheap food there. Plus I wanna meet up with my friends in Ipoh. I miss you guys so much!!!!!

Okay, this is another short random update post.
Slow line really kills my mood to update. Gahh..

I'm anticipating an interesting weekend.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
My aunt is a good cook and she promised to let Sze Haw and I help her make cheesecake. Hehehehehe.....plus tomorrow we're going to Klang to eat the Teluk Pulai 'bak kut teh'. We're going to need the help of the GPS since my uncle have never been there before and I only know how to go there by train. Omg...I'm going to be so fat after this weekend is over....

Happy Mooncake Festival

I'm back in Ipoh to celebrate the Mooncake Festival with my family.
I actually drove my orange Saga (manual) all the way back from Shah Alam yesterday since my dad's Kia was finally fixed. If you want to know what happened to it click here. It was my first time driving on the highway after 3 years of having a driving license...and it was quite scary at first but it got monotonous after the first hour. Conclusion: I'd rather be driven around than drive.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Now I'm back in Ipoh, the problem is getting back to Subang.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I didn't expect so many people to be travelling back to their hometowns this weekend so I can't get a train ticket back. So my options are either follow my 4th uncle's car back tomorrow or I go into the taxi with Louisa on Monday morning. Arghh...I hate having things at loose ends like this. Plus I have class on Tuesday!!! *pulls hair*

Okay, I have a family dinner in half an hour's time.
Need to go get ready.
Will update again soon.

Happy Mooncake Festival all!!!!
