Driving Mania?

Firstly, Congrats to CHRYS and MICHELLE for passing their driving tests.. on their FIRST attempt too. Great work. *winks* (The congratulations may be a little late because Chrys passed on the14th while Michelle passed on the 21st...Nevertheless...)

Two new driving license holders on the road...WATCH OUT!!!
This time of the year seems to be the most popular time for people to take their driving lessons and subsequently; THE test. SPM leavers and college students on break I guess..

WARNING:Since there's a bit of a mania about getting behind the wheel;I shall take this opportunity to launch into a long, boring story about my driving experiences (yes..I got my license last March;I'm legal on the road OK). Just kidding.

There's nothing much to tell anyway.
I remember what my instructor said on the first lesson,

"Ive been teaching driving for over 11 years. Don't show me any new tricks."
I didn't.
The occasional near-misses,went into the wrong lane once, near crash, sudden braking, engine dying at the traffic lights, toppling those black-and-white striped poles. None of them were new to him apparently. So,when I passed on my first attempt,he must have been bored...until I asked him to give me those "P" stickers for my car.
Actually,I didn't ask.It went something like this (in Cantonese):-

Me,"Mister, are you gonna give me those "P" stickers?"
Him,"You have to buy them from the shops."
Me,"I thought they gave them to us after we pass."
Him,"Hmph, you're the first person who've ever thought of such a thing."
Me,".....So we don't get anything for passing?"
Him,"OK then,I actually have some. Here.(passes them to me) Take them."

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us I still don't get why they don't just give them to us for free after we pass. I mean, they have those "approved sizes" thing about the stickers in the manual right??? Besides,we paid a bundle for the lessons plus the test(s).

Anyway, those 'free' stickers are residing on the left sides of my front and rear windows of my manual car. Yes,I drive what some people call 'shift sticks',auto cars are more preferred. Whatever..so long I can move around on my own,I don't give a damn.

Waking up from the wrong side of bed?

Have you ever woken up one morning and HATE everything about your life??Everything just seems against you.

The first thing I heard this morning was;not my alarm, but the ANNOYING drilling sounds that were coming from the area behind my house, where a construction of a new house is taking place. Imagine it,the SHRILL zzZZzzzzzZZZ of metal on metal piercing through your head at 8:30 in the morning.
8:30 a.m!!!!

Like some giant, demented bee!!!!!It gave me an instant headache.
"Great,JUST what I need when I've got two boring classes to attend today."
Now,I know that those construction workers were just doing their jobs;but couldn't they time their noisy works for a later part of the day where the sounds won't give people murderous thoughts about the source??

Class wasn't until 11a.m. (I'd plan to sleep in today because I've been feeling extra tired recently but THEN..you know what happened..)but since I was awake,I decided to get ready and go to college early and settle in the library where, hopefully,no drills are present. Hoping to subdue the headache (I was NOT hungover, trust me...) I washed my face and looked for my spectacles..but I couldn't see them. I distinctly remember putting them on my table before bed but my blurred vision made my frameless specs invisible against the dark wood. Squinting,I bent till my nose was almost touching my table,I tried to detect my specs;at the same time groping among the stationery and books there. Nothing. And the squinting didn't help my headache.

Lets skip the details of me breathing in whatever bacteria that was on my table until I actually found my specs. By the time I restored my vision, got dressed and had everything I needed for the day's classes,it was already 10 a.m. That was the longest I've EVER took to get ready. I would have been impressed;if it wasn't for the construction noises STILL echoing from the site right through my brain. Accompanied with loud hammering too. I seriously do not know why the noises were so particularly annoying today since the construction has been going on since last year.

Anyway,I just wanted to escape;so I threw everything into the car and whizzed to college. I didn't even get my customary morning dose of hot caffeine. Which made the classes seem everlasting. Now I'm considering sleeping with ear plugs until the construction is over. But then;I won't be able to hear my alarm. Talk about caught between two devils. The thing is,I don't know which is the lesser of the two evils.

*SIGH*

The power of MAKE UP

Yours truly has been looking at these pictures below.
Would you recognize them if there weren't any "after" photos???:-

If you want to see more click here

Isn't it amazing what make up and airbrushing can do???
Note:-
This not only applies to female celebrities,
but MALE ones as well!
So guys, don't shake your head and puff out your chests.
This has got me thinking...make-up artists make good money. Think..if we;the normal people, would spend on facial products to look good, how much would a celebrity pay?? (This is the money-minded side of me speaking *evil grins*)
Hmm...I'm seriously considering a part-time make-up course. The bonus is,you can also learn how to make yourself look good!!!

Missing...

Another little girl is missing.
Sharlinie Mohd Nashar
,5 years old...
Click here to read about it.

The news has been making big waves. When I flipped through the newspaper today, there's a whole page dedicated to a poster of her.I shook my head at all the news articles and comments by readers;raging against the kidnapper, the safety of our nation and offering support to the parents.
There was a similar case last year;an 8 year-old-girl,Nurin Jazlin Jazimin, went missing and was later discovered sexually assaulted and murdered. Google this news if you want to know more.During that period, there was a flurry of articles, news reports, searches and comments;all focusing on Nurin and her family. I get the feeling that the same storm is cooking up this time again.

Lets be honest here...part of me felt sorry for Sharlinie's parents for the anxiety they're going through;the other part felt rather angry. The little girl went missing from a playground. The playground was 200 meters from her home. The only person with her at that time..was her 8-year-old sister. The impression I get is;two children went to a playground without an adult accompanying them. Since Nurin's case I would have thought that few parents would allow their children to even step foot outside the house alone.

Its very sad to think that all this could have been avoided if they had been supervised by an adult. I'm not trying to condemn anyone. There is also an article related to this case today; which is a comment from D. Raj.(click on it to read the article):-

It has some very good points which I totally agree with.

Anyway,I hope that this case will not end on a sad note. I also believe that this case is only one in a million;or probably even millions. Perhaps since Nurin's case we can expect a better performance in the handling of this missing-child case with such wide publicity. The world is an ugly place;and ALL of us,children, teens and adults MUST BE CAREFUL.

Trench Coats

I was web surfing the other day and I found these pictures of trench coats. Honestly;I think trench coats are so chic! Pair them with dark glasses and you get the look above. I'm a big fan of classy styles. Trench coats can be worn in so many ways. If you want to know more click here.
All these pictures below make me feel so regretful that I don't live in a country with 4 seasons.

Some people wear them like dresses like the picture here..-------------->
But I recently I noticed that they're being used more like coats. Hence the four-seasons dream. Imagine wearing that and walking around in our Malaysian weather (unless you have a high-flying career that involves going around in an air-conditioned limo and attending functions in 5 star hotels) High flying dreams..

This black one looks more like a bathrobe...
But very sleek.

Still,I think beige and white ones are the coolest!!!

I know...I know...
I don't normally go raving over clothes. But I'm allowed to rave..I'm a girl after all...hahahaha....

Food and Tea

I had an unexpected free period today (Tax class cancelled..*WooHoo!!*) So,my classmates and I had a 3 hour lunch break. Feeling rather full-of-freedom (we were supposed to have a full day's class from 9 to 5:30 p.m with only 1 hour lunch break at 1 p.m) I proposed that we all go to Jusco for lunch. Surprise,my idea was taken quite enthusiastically!! So 5 of us;me,Stephanie,Bavanee,Mei Theng and Shobana hopped into my car and headed there.

Our venue..Food & Tea Hong Kong.

The previous time I was there I didn't get to eat their cheese-baked rice (according to the waiter, the machine to bake the rice broke down..) so I already had in mind what to order. We seated ourselves in the nice red cushioned seats and were given menus.I was looking around for the list of sets on offer so I called a waiter over. The fellow in an apron was jogging over towards us when I remembered..they speak Mandarin.
OK,let me explain. The previous time we were there, there was a mix-up with our orders because all the serving staff spoke mainly Mandarin (perhaps the name of the place have something to do with their staff hiring??) and we (the people from non-Chinese schools who were more fluent in Cantonese) had to resort to pointing and hand-flapping to tell them the problem until Wei Quing arrived and saved us all.

Back to the present...
This time,we remembered that Mei Theng was with us;she was assigned translator. BUT..to teach us a lesson on not to judge others;the waiter could understand Cantonese. What a mud pie to the face....Image Hosted by ImageShack.usAnyway, the sets offers weren't offered until 12p.m so we prudent accountants decided to order an ice cream while waiting for the offer.

BEFORE

AFTER
If you're raising your eyebrows..Its quite fun to have dessert first.Haha...Anyway,Mei Theng and Shobana weren't as stingy as us and decided to give the drinks there a go. Actually,Mei Theng was hungry and Shobana was vegetarian and the sets didn't offer much vegetarian-friendly fare (sorry Shobana...)

Come 12p.m..
Starters was mushroom soup. Then the main courses:-
CHEESE-BAKED pasta for Stephanie...

and CHEESE-BAKED rice for
Bavanee and me.

Iced "ying-yong" (coffee and tea) with herbal tea came with the sets. I couldn't finish the rice..the meal filled me up until bursting point.(Note:must not make this a regular occurance. Not healthy.) After eating,a tussle and mental arithmetic over the bill...we went for a long walk to help digest and rid the bloated feeling..
A free period well spent huh??? *LOL*

Random...

Oh...I forgot to mention that classes started on the 2nd. Which goes to prove CAT and ACCA students do not have the privilege of long holidays. When holiday seasons start for others,we're slaving over our books to face the exams. AND we start classes before other people's holidays end.

*SIGH*

The weird thing is,I get totally BORED during the holidays. The first excitement over GETTING a break wears off very fast when you realise there's nothing much to do except eat, sleep,go online and the occasional outing with friends. Someone should write a book called "How to Not Get Bored During Your Break". I think the sales will be high.

So since I complain about being bored, you must be rolling your eyes and thinking,"This girl has got NO life to enjoy attending classes." No..I don't enjoy my classes and neither do I hate them. Attending classes is a duty to me as a student. HOWEVER,I do enjoy the company I have in the class;my classmates. I would enjoy the subject being taught if it was interesting (and preferably not too hard to understand) and even more so if the lecturer is fun.

Things didn't turn out the way I wanted with the arrangement of my classes and lecturers (those of you who know will understand what I'm talking about) but I guess I have to just accept and deal with it. Praying for patience this year..lots n LOTS.

Louisa!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOUISA!!!!!
I once wrote an essay titled "My Best Friend". I have been blessed to have a group of close friends who accepted me as I am so I don't declare only ONE person as my BEST FRIEND. Anyway,I wrote about Louisa..This is how I described her:-
  • She's NOT stupid (I'd rather have a conversation with her than some people who score high marks in exams)
  • She's outgoing = CRAZY (She's got many eye-popping ideas that she actually considers putting into action...)
  • She likes a laugh (She can make me laugh and she can laugh at herself..Thats how I learn that we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously)
  • She's frustrating!!! (She chooses the worst times to be forgetful..I won't go into details)
  • She's generous (Seriously...I think I took advantage of her a few times..*guilty*)
I can go on and on but I think I'll leave it at that...
BOTTOM LINE = She's been really really great to me all those years in school.

Typical;all my friends have left Ipoh. And when they come back...I go outstation. (Its not deliberate..)
OK..quit the sad musings...Let me recall good times. Somehow, its hard for me to get a proper picture with Louisa!!!!There're ALWAYS bloopers!!!

And occasionally...some quite decent pictures (where we both don't look like we took more than our share of caffeine...)

Genting trip 2006
trying to look MAFIA...

Grad night...
Was sweltering until my smiles became fixed.

Hopefully this year I'll be seeing her more often...

!@#$%*& cable THIEVES!!!

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us THANKS to cable thieves...My house (and several neighbours) got disconnected from the world for a few days.

OK..being a little over-dramatic here. But no phone line and no internet connection can be pretty tragic when you're stuck at home on New Year's Eve night, declining invitations from friends because your parents are too worried to let you out (wild parties, drinking and noise-making can lead to pretty terrible things...not that I will run wild or anything).

Anyway,yours truly is back online...
I hope this won't happen again. Dumb thieves...causing all these just to make a few bucks (actually,a lot of bucks...) from the metal scrap dealer. I don't care what makes them so desperate until they have to resort to stealing..but they risk their lives doing that (they can get FRIED if they get electrocuted). Is money really THAT crucial??

Bye 2007...

May this year be what you expect it to be and much much MORE...
God bless you all....
