The earth moves...

Everybody's talking about the earthquake that rocked Sumatra and caused tremors around the Klang Valley. This is the latest news sourced from The Star. Click here to read.

If you're expecting me to tell a thrilling tale where I experienced the floor move beneath me, you're in the wrong place. Sorry..I missed the earthquake. That sounds rather offhand, forgive me, but I think I can live without that experience.

I was swimming while it happened.
Yup, I was in the water, doing some laps and some silly games with Yean Shan (doing stunts in the water and swimming the entire length of the pool underwater and things like that) and I didn't feel a thing. It was only when I got back to my room to find my FaceBook homepage flooded with "OMGtherewasanearthquakethefloormovedwhathappened??" status updates. Even some people complaining why they DIDN't feel anything. I'm rather glad I didn't have to feel the tremors. I might have thought the building was falling apart and panicked.

I'm not an expert on earthquakes but I do know that an earthquake was BAD when it hits a 7.9 on the Richter scale because the worst ever was a 8.1 or something like that. This is sure to be on the front page of newspapers tomorrow. Another natural disaster that will put us more in awe of Mother Nature than ever taking into mind the precedents of the 2004 tsunami and the 2005 Hurricane Katrina (why do they give disasters female names????); to name the two which I found really terrible. It will not be pleasant to read of the damage and grief it brought. I can't imagine what it feels like to lose a home or a family, somebody or something that you love and worked hard for, in a matter of minutes.

I pray that no worst will happen because there was another earthquake before this bad one. The previous earthquake claimed 128 lives. I dread to think the death toll for this one. Pray for the victims. Pray for the people who will be going there to rescue and help. Pray against any more disasters. I'll be keeping an eye out for any donation funds for this in church and I hope many others will be doing the same. Or maybe go the extra mile and pitch in to help. It is not enough to shake our heads at the news and pat ourselves on the back that we don't stay in Sumatra. DO SOMETHING!!!

Having no line SUCKS!!

You would have thought since I pay (or rather, my parents pay) RM450 a month for a twin sharing room with no air-con,no washing machine and sharing bathrooms; at least the internet provided would be decent. But NOOOOOOO.....it is slow and actually temperamental! Its slow and only on rare occasions fast. I can put up with slow...but I cannot put up with NO LINE. Its not the first time this has happened. There will suddenly be no line and no explanation for it!!!

Seriously annoying.
I only managed to connect today and I have like lost my mood to update nicely. Grr...

Scratch that. I'm not in a good mood.
A series of unfortunate events happened yesterday. First, my slipper straps broke while I was in the bus and I had to walk barefoot all the way to Padini to get a new pair of footwear. Next, my hostel keys went missing. Missing from my room!!! And no, I have not been careless. I clearly remember coming home with them because I opened the front door AND the room door with them. Plus I have a witness. My roomie clearly remember see-ing me open the door. I have not gone out since and now my keys have gone missing!!!Its a PAIN!!!! I've triple searched everywhere!!!!My room, bed, cupboards, kitchen, bathroom, even the dustbins!!!! Nothing!

I have to go and complain to the management now and I might face a fine for it. My bigger worry is WHO TOOK THE KEYS???? Its a scary thought that someone (only an insider could have done this) has my keys and can anytime use them to access my apartment and room. There is a possibility I left it on the common room table and the cleaner took it. That is the reason why I want to report. Its really S&^*&@#!!!!!!!!!!!

See...I know I am really in a bad mood when I write a ranting post.
God please help me.

Peking Duck at Canton Fare, Mont Kiara

Phew...finally finished resizing and uploading all these photos.
Yea, I resize my photos because the oh-so-fast hostel line is just great for uploading photos.

(Hmm..this is going to be another food centered post. Goodness...Joyce has to go on a diet!!!)

I believe we all had a nice long weekend thanks to the Raya holidays. My Tuesday class was cancelled because it is illegal to have classes on public holidays. My family came down from Ipoh and spent the weekend in Klang. And as usual when they come to pick me up, we drop by Sunway Pyramid and eat and shop shop shop before heading to Klang.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

My Yee-Yee finally got her wish of belanja-ing my Mummy at Canton Fare.
Yup, Canton Fare. Its a Chinese fine dining restaurant which is opened by my Yee's boss. The one which my aunt frequents is located in Mont Kiara, among the shop lots around SoHo KL. Its my second visit and this time I took PICTURES!!!
*applause please!!!!*Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I call this place fine dining because the interior is very beautifully decorated in the Chinese style. Ming vases, antique pieces and the nice lighting combined with the red walls and tablecloths make everything seem all red and gold. The auspicious Chinese colours. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

And my favourite among all the decors are the nice wood carving decorations:-
There are a good many of them along the walls.
All the decorations were specially flown in from China (inside info from my Yee).
Okay, enough about the decorations. Its a restaurant, so what is most important is the FOOD. Feast your eyes on my superb lunch that day:-

Appetiser
Its fried crabstick. Very nice.
(I still can't figure out how to fry crabstick until its crunchy like this.)

The highlight dish
Peking Duck!!!

This Peking Duck sells out really fast in Canton Fare. We got this duck through pre-order. Otherwise we'd end up staring at other tables' ducks. You must be wondering what's so special about this duck. Actually, its the way they serve it. You see a whole roasted duck in the picture right??
The waitress will carve (is that the right term??) the skin from the duck..
Yup, the skin. The tasty, crunchy roasted skin which is juicy from the roast and contains all the marinated duck flavour.

And there's some meat with the skin for those who find the skin only a bit too much:-

You can either eat it straight as it is or alternatively:-

Popiah style!!!
Yummy....

We got a huge duck so there was enough skin to go around. Now for the other dishes...

Chef's recommendation:
Canton Fare 'siew yoke' and 'char siew'
The char siew is a must try!!! Seriously, I think I could have finished that whole plate myself. The meat was so tender and juicy. Ahhhhh....pork never tasted so good!!!

(This isn't edible but couldn't resist putting up this photo.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us)
The duck earlier now served with some yummy lemon sauce dip.
You can actually ask for the duck meat to be cooked in other ways like stir fry with veggies but my Yee preferred to enjoy it as it is..Next:

Deep fried prawns with salted egg
They were literally gone in seconds. You can see chopsticks spearing them in the picture right???I don't really like salted egg but this dish was SUPERB!!

Some vegetables to go with all the meat...

And steamed FISH with special soy sauce
I swear that fresh fish tastes the best when it is cooked this way. Soft, smooth white meat. I could have eaten the whole fish. Hehe!!!

The dishes all came in good timing. Not like some restaurants where you can grow 10 foot long fingernails while waiting for the food to arrive. Very good service from the staff there. *thumbs up*. We were so stuffed after eating so we moved around a bit and looked around. And since no other patrons were there with us in the upstairs dining area, my family were like posing for the camera with the decor:-

My mum's new past time.Hehe.

And me with Yoong Yoong

Err.....
......don't ask.

Oohh...and we ordered a few desserts. My aunt wanted my Mummy to try them. I like Canton Fare's mango desserts. Like the Mango Pudding and the Mango Sago here:-

And this is yam dessert.
Not really my thing because I like my desserts cold.
But I did steal the ginkos off it because noone else wanted it.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

THANK YOU YEE-YEE FOR LUNCH!!!!
-----------------------------------------

We went to 1 Utama after eating to walk away the bloated feeling. I didn't know we were going to there else I would have brought more sensible shoes then the heels I was wearing. Thank goodness I didn't wear the 3.5 inches. =.=

Didn't do much there. But I did find this really nice top in Forever 21. And Yoong found this really cute skirt which I think she should SOOOO get. See:-

What do you think???

Listen to the silence

So silent.

I'm the only resident left in my hostel apartment.Everyone has left to go back to their hometowns for the Raya holidays. My roommate left for Pudu just this morning. My other housemates were lugging backpacks and luggage out of the door too. So now its just me.

(I sound so emo)
Nah..actually, my parents are coming down to Klang for the holidays instead of me going back to Ipoh. I do want to go back but I guess it will be a good idea for my family to come instead.
My brother will get to go out of Ipoh for a change and meet my cousins. AND they'll be traveling against the mad Raya jam on the highway. Which is so much safer. Yea, everyone rushes OUT of the city and back to hometown for holidays. My family is the opposite. I remember last time during school holidays, we would be zooming smoothly on the highway while the other side is literally at a standstill with a massive jam. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I'm so addicted to the song Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics now!!!!!Listening to it over and over. It relaxes me. The week has been full of happenings. But I gotta update another time because I'm too lazy. So meanwhile....

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something.

Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused.

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something.

Hold your head up - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up.

Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused.

Hold your head up - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up - Movin' on

Move the spotlight

Hey guys, if you wanna see really nice pictures of T-Music Festival, click here. :)
Since I have already posted about T-Music Festival, its time other things take stage.

Has anyone been to Carey Island before????
I know, you must be asking, "Been WHERE...??" Carey Island is near Banting and is a great place for seafood.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us My aunt and uncle stumbled upon it and they decided to bring my Yee Ma's family and me there for dinner. It was last weekend when I missed my train back to Ipoh and spent the weekend in Klang instead. Anyway, the dinner was also a late birthday celebration for my aunt. We went to see the sunset on the beach before we went to the restaurant for seafood. Some pictures:-

Me trying out posing before the sunset.*hehe*

And little Daniel doing his 'Superman' pose

Another thing...I cut my fringe. For the first time in 10 years, I, Joyce Wong, have a short fringe. It was a spur of a moment decision. I'm still not used to my look now. I have to actually comb my hair now...more than once a day!!!!
Arrrrggghhh!!!!I regret it!!!
My mum said it looks nice because I look like when I was younger (like I did in primary school =.=). Some friends say I look more Japanese now (since when do I look Japanese lah????).Sze Haw wants my old hairstyle back. What do you think???
*Consolation to self: My hair grows like a weed so it'll be back to normal soon.

Oh, Yoong also got her fringe cut and I think it really really suits her. Makes her look so cute:-

(I MADE her do that kawaii pose for me. HAHA!!!)

My mummy came down to spend Sunday with me before her meeting in Putrajaya on Monday. Did some shopping and had a great time. So happy.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us I have to wait till my family comes down for Raya this weekend to get the pictures from Mummy's camera. Till then.

Please forgive me if this blog is silent during weekdays because classes really take up my time and you really don't want to hear me blog about the long hours of nose grinding. Ahhh...the beauty of ACCA...

T-Music Festival was so hot!!!

Like literally....

Even by my standards (I perspire easily) it was so hot in the Bukit Jalil Stadium that I gave up on fanning myself with the handy brochures I was given and just let it pour!!!
I finally got to hold the tickets that I won from Nuffnang!!Sze Haw collected them from the office for me. Behold our Golden Tickets to our Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory!!!

One for SzeHaw.One for Shyang. One for Jack.
One for ME!!!
THANK YOU NUFFNANG!!!!

Thank goodness our tickets were for numbered seating. I can't imagine fighting with the mass crowd there who I guess were waiting to get in early to grab the best place for their free-seating tickets. Our seats were pretty good. Third row from the stage albeit a little to the side. No complains because we had a good view of the stage.Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Actually, cameras were not allowed but Sze Haw's bro managed to bring in her camera for her. I can't wait for her to give me the pictures, so the pictures I'm gonna show are from my mobile (no zoom,no focus).

We had to walk down so many steps to get to our seats.
A picture of the stage while it was still light for me to snap nice pictures:-

Our seats were in FRONT of the seats reserved for the media.

Waiting waiting waiting for the show to start.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Honestly, I don't listen to Chinese songs much. Perhaps the odd soundtrack from my favourite TVB dramas or songs which my friends or roommate play . But there were songs performed that night even I have heard before and one or two English ones were belted out for the crowd to sing along with. Nice.Okay...some of the best pictures of the night.

This guy is the old host of the 'Ho Chiak' show on 8TV!!!
I had no idea he could sing!!!!

Kelvin Tan
(love his voice, love his guitar playing)

It finally got dark enough for SzeHaw and Jack to light their sabers
and have Star Wars fights with them with poor me in the middle....

SOLER
(they made a really cool entrance and the guys so HANDSOME!!)

POWER STATION ROCKS!!!!!!
We were sitting behind a group of Power Station fans and they screamed so loud my ears rang.

I officially declare Thai male singers sizzling HOT!!!!
James did a really really good job on stage and he totally worked the crowd. Stage presence pro!!So MAN!!!And Chin (also from Thailand) is so leng chai!!!Actually the part where he impressed me the most is when he was just starting his performance, and there was a loud *BOOM* and the mic went off and the lights went out. Chin acted really professional and cool, started posing for pictures on the stage right where he was standing. The crowd LOVED that.

The blackout was no joke though...the VIP tent caught fire and we were like in darkness for about 20 minutes plus. The hosts were doing their best to pacify a frustrated crowd with a hailer (couldn't hear them). Technical problems.
'Potong stim'....

But the lights came back on in the end and I think the fire or whatever it was was put out (could smell smoke)...

The show must go on....

(lazy to upload more pictures)

Justin Lo was one of my favourites because I have heard his songs from Sze Haw's constant playing on her laptop. And also, Manhand (local group) deserves a BIG HAND. They really made us Malaysians proud with their performance on stage. The crowd went wild for them. *Cheers!!!!* And then the grand finale of the night:-

JOEY YUNG!!!!!

I was seriously anticipating her appearance on stage. Very very nice end to an awesome night to hear her sing my favourite song from her, "See Me Fly". Its now stuck in my head and I'm playing it for the 13th time (iTunes counted for me).
